The "Azulejo" tile is one of Portugal's most emblematic forms of art. For more than five centuries these square ceramics have been a record of historic and religious events, and others have been used to decorate churches, facades and rooms. Learn a little about the process and take away a record of this special moment.

Telmo Pereira

Azulejo Painter

Telmo has been working with azulejos since 1998. He attended a two year course in Ceramic Design. At the end of 2008, he opened his own workshop, where he perfected his technique, sharing information with more other experienced painters and investing in training. He took part in various workshops on traditional Portuguese azulejo painting and contemporary sculpture, amongst others. He is currently an instructor at Cencal, the centre for professional training for the ceramics industry.
